TAURINE improves athletic performance. TAURINE plays an essential role in metabolism and digestion as it helps the liver create bile salts. Bile salts help break down fatty acids in the intestine. Bile acids are the body's main way of breaking down cholesterol.

TAURINE can be synthesized in the liver from cysteine, or from methionine in any other part of the body (if sufficient amounts of vitamin B6 are present).

Due to its biochemical characteristics, TAURINE can function as: antihypertensive, cardiac tonic, cholesterol level reducer, hepatobiliary tonic, anticonvulsant, calming and also as a protector against various toxic influences on the eyes (it is the most abundant amino acid in the retina).

As an antihypertensive, TAURINE plays an important role in regulating the transport of minerals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium to the inside and outside of cardiovascular cells. Studies suggest that patients with hypertension have lower taurine levels in their blood. When TAURINE levels are reduced in both urine and blood, renin is activated and angiotensin is formed. Angiotensin is a blood protein responsible for raising blood pressure. It is thought that TAURINE may suppress renin and thus inhibit the formation of angiotensin.

With regard to cardiovascular health and knowing that the heart has a large concentration of TAURINE, several studies have shown the benefits of TAURINE supplementation in a wide variety of pathologies, including arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy and mitral valve prolapse. Scientific studies have shown that TAURINE increases the retention of potassium and magnesium in the heart muscle – these nutrients are necessary for electrical stability and regular heart contractions.

Regarding high cholesterol levels, according to research, TAURINE, in addition to being necessary for the formation of bile by the liver, allows for more efficient excretion and increases the production of taurocholate, a compound that causes the excretion of more cholesterol by bile.
